On the border between the provinces of Albacete and Cuidad Real, and in the middle of the vast Campo de Montiel, we find, almost without warning, an oasis of water and flora; the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve, where at its highest point, la Cabeza de san Pedro, are Rochadfrida Castle and the Cave of Montesinos.
In an area of 4000 hectares there are 16 lagoons which gradually form waterfalls and ravines which originate from the first springs which gush forth from the Blanca lagoon until they reach the lower lagoons and the Peñarroya Marsh. In sprint, the exuberant colour of an abundant and varied flora receives countless aquatic birds. The water reaches its maximum current during this period and flows from one lagoon to another, in some cases forming small waterfalls.
